About

The West Hartlepool Harbour and Railway Company was formed in 1851, when the Hartlepool West Harbour and Dock Company merged with the Stockton and Hartlepool and Clarence Railways. 5. They purchased a fleet of ships which were sometimes known as sailing under the West Hartlepool and Hamburg Steam Packet Company.

After it was discovered that the Company had been running at a loss in 1861, the ships were sold off to Pile, Spence & Co. in April 1862, and the company was eventually absorbed into the North Eastern Railway, in 1865.
