Originally, there was the "Chantier de bateau de Merville", founded in 1853 by Sabin Halouchery Pruvost.
His son-in-law (Joseph Quille) succeeded him in 1882. In 1920, Joseph's three sons (Albert, Ernest, and Joseph) ran the company.
The company manufactured barges, dredges, sheds, gangways, and more.
Francis Bouygues (founder of the construction group of the same name) took over and expanded his business, after Ernest Quille was killed in a car accident.
The company went bankrupt in 1968,.
