About this company

General information

The Swan & Hunter company was founded in 1880. In 1903, it merged with Wigham Richardson (founded by John Wigham Richardson in 1860), to sign a prestigious contract with the Cunard Line, the great British ocean liner company, for the construction of the Mauretania. It will remain in service until 1935. The Cunard Line company, sufficiently satisfied with this order, will order other ships.
In November 2006, the owners announced that it was the end and put the shipyard's iconic cranes up for sale and sought a buyer. for the field. In April 2007, the cranes, floating dock and other equipment were sold to Bharati Shipyards, India's second largest private shipyard. The whole thing was dismantled, shipped and reassembled in India in 6 months. The company has refocused on the field of maritime design and engineering.
