About this company

General information

William R. Trigg founded the Richmond Locomotive Works and is said to have done "more to build up the manufacturing interests of Richmond than perhaps any other man".  He created this shipyard in October 1898 after having won his first contract to build three torpedo boats and two torpedo boat destroyers for the US Navy.  The company won other contracts between 1899 and 1901 but became insolvent, was placed in receivership in December 1902, and declared bankrupt in May 1903.  William Trigg died in February 1903.  The vessels under construction when the company, among those shjips was the dredger Benyuard.  was declared bankrupt were eventually completed by others or sold for their material value and the shipyard itself was sold at auction in July 1905.
