The Tsimlyansk Shipyard found its origins in the construction of the Tsimlyansk Hydroelectric Power Station, the reconstruction of the river Don and the works on the Volga-Baltic Canal. The mechaical workshop for these projects, where all plant and equipment was under maintenance, continued after the completion of the works as the Novosolenovskiy Construction and Assembly Section.
In 1954, the Novosolenovskiy Section was transferred to the Transhydrostroy Trust of the USSR Ministry of Transport Construction. In 1959, it was renamed the Tsimlyanskiye Mechanical Repair and Workshops of Transhydrostroy of the USSR Ministry of Transport Construction. On September 1, 1970, due to the increased volume of work and the expansion of production, the Tsimlyansk Repair and Mechanical Workshops were renamed the Tsimlyansk Repair and Mechanical Plant.
In 1971, the decision was made to build a specialty casting shop.
In January 1979, the plant produced its first smelt of steel. This made it one of the largest manufacturers of dredgers and mechanical engineering products.
In 1981, the plant was renamed the Tsimlyansk Ship Engineering Plant.
Between 1985 to 1988 the yard was reconstructed
In 1992, the plant became the Tsimlyansk Ship Engineering Plant Joint-Stock Company.
